Since 2019
Our History
A university built transparently — from white paper to proxy cohorts to regulatory review, and toward September 2026.
Zaag University, pursuing degree-granting authority through PEQAB and MCU Consent to Confer, was founded in Trenton, Ontario as a federal not-for-profit institution. From the outset, the founding team chose to build in public — publishing milestones, sharing setbacks, and treating transparency as a non-negotiable institutional value. What follows is a real account of how Zaag has grown: from concept, through programme development and proxy agreements, to the regulatory review that will bring undergraduate students to campus in September 2026.
Milestones
Founded
Zaag University is formally incorporated as a federal not-for-profit institution in Trenton, Ontario. The founding team begins development of the institutional framework, articulating the Q.E.D. philosophy — Quod Erat Demonstrandum, proven through action — and the four-pillar academic structure: Healthcare & Emergency Medicine, Technology & AI, Policy & Leadership, and Applied Disciplines. Notice of Intent is filed with the Government of Ontario.
B.EMS Development & Proxy Agreements
Development begins on Canada's first Bachelor of Emergency Medicine (B.EMS), structured around the Paramedic Pathway: EMR → PCP/AEMCA → ACP → B.EMS. Proxy agreements are established to allow active programme delivery while degree-granting authority is pursued through PEQAB and MCU Consent to Confer. The four active programmes — B.EMS, Dip.APC, Dip.CPC, and Dip.EMS — begin taking shape under this framework.
First Cohort & Endowment Growth
The first cohort of students begins studies through proxy agreements. The Zaag University endowment reaches a significant early milestone. The institutional framework for all 79+ programmes across eight faculties is developed, with Indigenous advisors granted full voting rights on all Programme Advisory Committees. OCAP® principles, UNDRIP alignment, and TRC Calls to Action are embedded across curricula.
PARIS Submissions & Second Cohort
Programme Applications and Regulatory Submissions (PARIS) are filed as part of the formal degree-granting authority process. The second cohort begins studies. The nine research centres are formally scoped: Emergency Medicine Research Centre, AI & Applied Technology Institute, Health Sciences Research Centre, Indigenous Health & Community Research Institute, Policy & Leadership Research Centre, Environmental & Applied Sciences Research Centre, Biomedical Research Institute, Culinary & Applied Food Sciences Centre, and Interdisciplinary Research Institute.
Third Cohort & Ecosystem Development
The third cohort completes studies, bringing the total of Zaag alumni to 107 students across three graduated cohorts. All under proxy agreements — a milestone that demonstrates the institution's ability to deliver on its academic commitments before formal degree-granting authority is conferred. Development of the five-platform Zaag Ecosystem accelerates: ZaagU Portal, EducationSpace, The733, ZaagVille, and ZaagClinic.
Regulatory Review & Endowment Milestone
Five flagship programmes enter active regulatory review through PEQAB and MCU Consent to Confer. Active Ontario Superior Court proceedings advance the institutional timeline. The Zaag University endowment reaches $575,000,000. The Zaag Ecosystem platforms are finalised. The institution prepares for undergraduate launch with 79+ programmes across eight faculties ready for September 2026.
Undergraduate Launch — September 2026
Zaag University opens undergraduate enrolment in September 2026, subject to regulatory approval. The inaugural undergraduate cohort will access programmes across all eight faculties, with the Bachelor of Emergency Medicine (B.EMS) — Canada's first — as the flagship offering. The Zaag Zombies varsity programme launches at The733. Graduate programmes are scheduled to open in September 2027.
